We've been to Goa twice before, and this time was our third family trip there. While planning, I was excited to explore some lesser-known, offbeat beach destinations. Goa has always been one of my favorite places. When winter comes around in Bengaluru, I always find myself longing for the beach as if it's calling out to me. It's become a tradition for us to head to the cooler mountains during the summer vacation and to head to the beaches during the winter. So, no surprises, we decided to visit Goa again this winter.
We set off from Bengaluru and made it to Chitradurga by 7 am. It's a really cool place, with lots of windmills lined up on the mountain tops, creating a really picturesque view from afar.
We took so many pictures at this awesome spot and stopped for a little break. My daughter Mimi was feeling hungry, but no worries - I made some delicious cakes last night. Mimi enjoyed munching on them while my son Raj was still asleep. The kids were super excited for this trip!
We were following Google Maps all along and everything was great until noon. However, once we crossed the Karnataka border and entered Maharashtra, the road became narrower, almost like a one-way road.
Before our trip, my husband and I watched lots of YouTube videos of couples traveling to Goa by road. We felt prepared for the steep mountainous roads, but they turned out to be even steeper in reality, especially the Belgavi Road. The journey was quite intense and it was 7 kms long! I remember seeing small boards with "Maut Ka Kuan" (Death Well) written on them at 200m, then 100m. As we got closer, it was a bit scary to navigate through those steep hairpin bends, but it was also quite adventurous. If you're not a confident driver, I'd recommend avoiding this route and taking the longer but safer one instead. We later found out about an alternate route that was less steep but would take a bit longer. The Belgavi route is shorter but much steeper. If safety is a priority for you, you can opt for the longer route. If you're planning to visit Arambol, I suggest checking out our road trip video for all the details. Our experience can help you make a smart decision!
We finally made it to Arambol around 5:30 pm in the evening. Huge shoutout to my amazing husband for patiently driving us all the way, bringing our 13-hour journey to a close. I'm so grateful to our kids for being such troopers and showing incredible patience throughout the trip. They had a rough time with motion sickness, especially during those steep hairpin bends in Belgavi.
With this my road trip experience to Arambol comes to an end and in my next blog I will tell you where we stayed and what all places we explored in Arambol.

The last two times we visited Goa by train. Well, this time we wanted to do something more adventurous, so we decided to go on a road trip instead. Although we've taken car trips before to nearby destinations like Mysore and Coorg, which took us 4 to 6 hours, this trip took us a whopping 13 LONG HOURS!
Nevertheless, we took this as a challenge!

Finally Our Road Trip Begins…
So, we set off on our adventure at 4 am because we really didn't want to miss out on reaching Goa before sunset. We're a family of four, and if you're part of our YouTube fam, you probably already know that! If not, please consider subscribing to our channel. My husband, Swadhin, is always the designated driver because, you know, I'm still getting the hang of driving.
